An ASL Staff Interpreter effectively interprets between American Sign Language, spoken English, and atypical language to fulfil the mission of Perspectives Corporation. All policies and procedures are guided by Perspectives Mission, Core Values and Philosophies.

Minimal Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 consistent years working as a sign language interpreter.
• Must hold a certificate in sign language interpretation from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc., CASLI, LLC, National Association for the Deaf (NAD 4/5), Board of Evaluators for Interpreters (BEI Advanced/Master), or accepted state screening.
• Must also have (or be eligible for) a license issued by the RI Board of Examiners for the Deaf through the RI Department of Health and must maintain such credentials as a condition of employment.
• Knowledge of technology, e-mail, smart phone, DHOH technology, etc.
• Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
o Knowledge of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD)-Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional
Conduct.
o Knowledge of Deaf culture and cultural experiences associated with deafness.
o Must be a self-starter.
• Must be comfortable working with a team of interpreters, Deaf or hearing.

Desired Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Interpreting, Linguistics, Deaf Studies, or related field.
• Knowledge of the Google platform
• Must be able to mentor.
• Must participate in collegial supervision.
• Must be able to translate frozen texts to a digital platform.
• Basic supervisory skills
• Knowledge of technology, email, smart phone, etc
